SOLAR PANEL REBATES
Solar panel rebates are available of up to $1,400 plus the option of an interest-free loan.
Introduction
Solar Victoria are providing a rebate of up to $1,400 for solar panel (PV) system installation, for homeowners and rental properties plus the option of an interest-free loan..
To further reduce installation costs, householders can apply for an interest-free loan, for an amount equivalent to their rebate amount. The loan is required to be repaid over four years or can be repaid sooner in one lump sum.
The first step is to ensure you understand the Solar Homes Program eligibility criteria. To be eligible for a rebate, products must be on this approved products list and you must install with a registered installer. At Solar 1 Electrical we only use approved products and are hold full accreditation to met all eligibility requirements.
We will upload your quote to the Solar Victoria Portal (the Portal), which will trigger the online process for your eligibility assessment. Once this is done, all you need to do is upload proof of income and a Rates notice to confirm your details. We will guide you through this process and provide any assistance required.
On confirmation that you are eligible, we will claim the rebate on your behalf and deduct the rebate amount from the total cost of your system. You will then pay a 10% deposit and the outstanding balance once your solar is installed.
ELIGIBILITY
Victorian households are eligible to receive a rebate for installing a solar PV system if they meet the following criteria:
- they are the owner-occupier of the property
- the owners have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per year (based on last year’s Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment)
- they have not already received a rebate as an owner-occupier under the Solar Homes Program
- it is an existing property, valued at under $3 million
- that the property address has not previously taken part in the Solar Homes Program
- they do not have an existing solar PV system*.
Important Note
* Early adopters who installed their system prior to 1 November 2009 are eligible to replace or expand their existing system. However, those receiving the Premium Feed-in Tariff should consider whether they will be better off if they replace their existing system.
*If a system on your roof was installed after 1 November 2009 . even if removed or if you did not install it. Under Solar Victoria current guidelines and regulations you can not apply for the Solar PV rebate.

Interest-free loans
To further reduce costs, owner-occupiers can apply for an interest-free loan, for an amount equivalent to their rebate amount.
An interest-free loan, matching the rebate amount, is also available for most solar panel (PV) applications.
In line with the existing rebate, the new interest-free loan can be applied up to an amount of $1,400. If your total system cost is less than $2,800, there will be no upfront cost.
The loan is required to be repaid over four years or can be repaid sooner in one lump sum.

INTEREST FREE LOANS FOR SOLAR (PV) PANELS
A big bonus of the new Solar Homes Program is the addition of interest free loans. The Solar Homes Loan Program complements the Solar PV System rebates further reducing the up – front cost of solar panel (PV) systems.
How Much Can I Borrow?
Eligible homeowners will have the option of applying for an interest free loan amount equal to the Solar Rebate amount of up to $1,400.
Am I Eligible?
If you can show a ‘Positive Benefit Assessment’ you can apply. Basically this means that the savings you will have by installing solar will cover your interest free loan repayments.
Your chosen retailer will be able to supply you with a ‘Positive Benefit Assessment’.
How to Apply – Your Step by Step Guide
You will be notified of your eligibility for a loan as part of the rebate application process via the Solar Victoria Portal. If you are eligible, you can select whether you would like to take up the loan option.
Important Notes
Interest – free loans must be paid within a four – year period, or sooner if you choose to do so.
